Replacing the forward riser of your Metallic Series rower’s tank assembly assembly is a fairly straightforward task to perform.
The process is nearly identical for any Metallic Series rower, with minor differences for rowers equipped with the PowerPulley, CityRow Connect touchscreen, and Pro Touchscreen due to their integrated tablet arms — however, the process as a whole is the same, regardless of model. Follow the steps below.

Step 1
Place handle into the most forward position near the large pulley in the Forward Riser.

Step 2
Using the 5mm ratchet included with your rower, remove the handle rests and handle rest bolts. Set them aside.

Step 3
Rotate the footboard away from the tank assembly toward the rear of the rower.

Step 4
Remove the tank cover by sliding it simultaneously upward and toward the rear of the rower.

Step 5
Unclip the bungee cord from the recoil strap.

Step 6
Gently pull the handle toward the rear of the rower, keeping tension on the recoil belt. The recoil belt will wind around the paddle shaft underneath the clutch.
Step 7
Using a 1/8″ Allen key, remove the bolt securing the handle strap to the clutch.

Step 8
Pull the handle free from the clutch.

Step 9
Using the 5mm ratchet, remove the bolts and washers (2 on each side) joining the front end pad to each rail.

Step 10
Using the 5mm ratchet, loosen and remove the 4 tie rods.

Be sure to keep an eye on the barrel nuts that will fall out from underneath the top deck when removing the upper pair of tie rods.

The bottom tie rod barrel nuts will stay in place in the bottom deck of the tank assembly when the lower pair of tie rods are removed.

Step 11
Remove the Forward Riser assembly from the tank assembly by pulling it away from the front end of the rower.

Step 12
Replace the Forward Riser assembly by sliding it into place on the front of the rower, ensuring that the brackets of the front end pad are inserted into both rails.

Step 13
Secure the replacement Forward Riser in placee.
Using the 5mm ratchet, install the bolts and washers (2 on each side) joining the front end pad to each rail that were removed in Step 9.

Leave this hardware slightly loose in case any adjustment is needed when securing the tie rods.

Step 14
Replace all 4 tie rods.
The lower tie rods should screw straight in to the housed barrel nuts.

The upper tie rods require holding the barrel nut in place while screwing in the tie rod.
Use the 5mm ratchet to securely tighten all 4 tie rods once they are threaded, then tighten the 4 loosely-installed front end pad bolts from Step 13.

Step 15
Orient the handle so that the rivets in the handle collar (where the handle attaches to its strap) are facing downward.

While preserving this orientation and not twisting the handle strap, feed the handle strap through the forward riser cap, around around the large pulley in the forward riser, and into the clutch mechanism area as shown.

Step 16
Guide the handle strap inside of the upper guide pulley

Then, thread the handle strap through the openings in the clutch.

And finally, secure the handle to the clutch by tightening the small bolt with the 1/8″ Allen key.

Step 17
Gently pull on the recoil belt to wind the handle around the clutch.

While doing so, hold the handle strap taught to prevent it from slipping off the pulleys.

The handle must reach its most forward position, up against the Forward Riser.

Step 18
Pass the recoil belt over both guide pulleys (the smaller ones) in the Forward Riser. Ensure the recoil belt is aligned and sits in the grooves of both pulleys.

Step 19
Re-connect the bungee cord to the recoil belt.

Step 20
Reinstall the tank cover by sliding it simultaneously downward and toward the front of the rower. If your rower is equipped with black plastic shims to secure the front end of the top cover, ensure the cover is fully seated in them.

Step 21
Rotate the footboard forward towards the tank and align the handle rest holes with the nuts embedded in the black angled brackets of the tank assembly.

Step 22
Using the 5mm ratchet, reinstall the handle rests and their bolts.
Do not overtighten these bolts as damage to the black angled brackets may occur.
Note: Do NOT use a drill or impact driver when when installing these bolts.
